General Screening for common childhood concerns offers a first step in understanding the challenges your child may be facing at school or home. This screening is undertaken by a trained educational psychologists who specialises in child development, behaviour, and learning.

What Is General Screening?  General screening is a brief, structured process designed to identify signs of the most common developmental, emotional, behavioural, and learning disorders in children. It is not a diagnosis, but it can help determine whether further specialised assessment is needed.

What Does It Screen For?  The screening process commonly identifies early indicators of:

• ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder): Signs of inattention, impulsivity, or hyperactivity that may affect learning or behaviour.
• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Social communication difficulties, repetitive behaviours, and sensory sensitivities.
• Anxiety Disorders: Excessive worry, school refusal, perfectionism, or physical symptoms like stomachaches.
• Depression: Persistent sadness, irritability, changes in sleep/appetite, or loss of interest in activities.
• Specific Learning Disorders (e.g., Dyslexia, Dyscalculia): Difficulties in reading, writing, or maths.
• Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD): Frequent defiance, argumentative behaviour, or difficulty with authority figures.
• Language and Communication Disorders: Challenges with understanding or expressing language appropriate to age.
